*“Penny A Day / Son of David”* _Gospel with Choir_
_Tempo: 92 BPM, organ + claps + bass_
__
Many called... few chosen... Son of David, have mercy...
__
Kingdom of heaven is like a householder, went out early in the mornin’
(Choir: Early in the mornin’!)
Hired laborers for his vineyard, agreed a penny for the day
Went out third hour, sixth, ninth — saw others standing idle
Said “Go ye also in my vineyard, whatsoever’s right I’ll pay”
__
Eleventh hour he went out, found more just waitin’ there
“Why stand ye idle all day?” “No man hired us,” they said
“Go also in the vineyard” — grace don’t check the clock
__
When even came, lord called the steward, “Pay ‘em from last to first!”
(Choir: Last to first!)
Eleventh hour got a penny, first hour got a penny too
They murmured, “We bore the heat, why make ‘em equal?”
But he said, “Friend, I do thee no wrong — penny’s what we agreed
Is it not lawful to do what I will with mine own?
Is thine eye evil ‘cause I am good?
So the last shall be first, and the first shall be last — many called, few chosen!”
__
Jesus going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve aside
(Choir: Going up!)
“Son of man shall be betrayed, condemned, mocked, scourged, crucified
But the third day He shall rise again” — that’s the victory
__
Mother came worshipping, asked “Let my sons sit left and right in Your kingdom”
Jesus said, “Ye know not what ye ask. Can ye drink the cup I drink?
Be baptized with the baptism I’m baptized with?”
“Yea, we are able,” they said
He said, “Ye shall drink My cup, but thrones are the Father’s to give”
Ten were moved with indignation — but Jesus called ‘em near:
__
“Princes of Gentiles exercise dominion, great men use authority
But it shall not be so among you
Whosoever will be great, let him be your minister
Whosoever will be chief, let him be your servant
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister
And to give His life a ransom for many”
__
As they departed Jericho, great multitude followed Him
Two blind men by the roadside heard Jesus pass by
Cried out, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David!”
(Choir: Son of David!)
Multitude rebuked them, “Hold your peace!” — but they cried the more
Jesus stood still, called them, said “What will ye that I shall do?”
“Lord, that our eyes may be opened”
So Jesus had compassion, touched their eyes
(Choir: He touched ‘em!)
Immediately their eyes received sight — and they followed Him!
__
Many called, few chosen, but mercy’s for the last!
Son of David, have mercy — open blinded eyes!
We follow Him! We follow Him! Hallelujah!
The hook is “Last shall be first” — congregation can clap and repeat that all day.
